With spending as simple as the click of a button on your mobile phone, it can be super tough to save your hard-earned cash these days. We also know that experiences like skydiving don’t exactly come cheap, but hey, the best ones rarely do!
We don’t want to send you broke with your jump, but we also don’t want you to miss out on the incredible experience that is throwing yourself out of a moving plane. With that in mind, we’ve come up with a few handy tips to help YOU save for your next skydive! Whether you do these things in the short term to muster up enough cash to do a jump, or you implement them into your long term savings plan, these tips will definitely help you fill your wallet:
GET A SIDE HUSTLE
Do you have any skills that could help you earn a bit of extra money alongside your regular job? Maybe you’re great at drawing and could sell your art, or you could take your love of animals and turn it into a pet sitting gig for your neighbours. If you can’t think of anything, don’t worry! If you’re really serious about making extra cash, you could even get a second job outside of your regular work hours, like bartending on the weekends.
SELL YOUR STUFF
When we find our homes full of clutter, the easiest thing to do is gather it all up and drop it off at your local op-shop. While donating your unwanted items is a great thing to do, you could also earn some money by making the effort to actually sell your stuff! Instead of donating straight up, why not go to the local markets or hold a garage sale and try your hand at selling your previously loved goods? You’re sure to snap up a few bucks at the end of the day!
PLAN YOUR MEALS
How many times do you go to the supermarket each week? If it’s more than once or twice, then you may want to consider planning your meals. Not only does it save you time and effort, but it also saves you money since you’ll only need to make one or two trips to the shops, eliminating the risk of coming home each day with a trolley full of food you didn’t plan to buy. This also helps eliminate food waste, meaning you’re only spending money on food that you’re actually eating!
TAKE A MONTH OFF ALCOHOL
We’re not going to tell you to give up your daily coffee because hey, you’ve got to live a little. One thing can you try to avoid for a few weeks, however, is booze! A night out on the town can be expensive, especially if you live in a major city or metro area. Going out for a ‘few’ drinks with mates can easily turn into a massive night, with both your head and your bank account aching the next morning. Instead, sign up to Dry July or Octsober and save all the coin you would usually spend on alcohol. You’d be surprised at how much it all adds up!
CANCEL UNUSED SUBSCRIPTIONS OR MEMBERSHIPS
Do you have a bunch of unused subscriptions linked to your iTunes account that auto-renew without you even realising? Do you spend every evening sitting on your couch, completely oblivious to the $20 a week gym membership that you’re paying for but never use? Do you have Netflix AND Stan, but only watch old reruns of Friends on free to air television? No matter what, there is probably at least one unused or forgotten subscription or membership that you could cancel right now, saving you cash in the long run!
PACK YOUR LUNCH FOR WORK
Let’s just say that you are super lazy, and you never bring your own lunch to work. Instead, you head up to the shops or order UberEats delivery to the office every day. Now, if you spend an average of $15 per day on your lunch, that is a whopping $300 you’re spending each month! Did you know that is almost enough to pay for your skydive? Get your brown paper bag ready and start packing your lunch for work each day. Trust us, the jump will be worth it!
CHOOSE FREE OR LOW COST ACTIVITIES
Just because you’re saving money doesn’t mean you can’t have fun… you just need to have a different kind of fun! For example, instead of catching up with your mates at a restaurant, why not host a potluck dinner at home? There are plenty of free or low cost activities you can do for fun, such as going for nature walks, having a picnic in the park, or even hosting your own Sip & Paint event at home – all you need are a couple of bottles of wine and some paint supplies from Kmart!
Incorporating even just a few of the above ways to save money into your life will no doubt help you save your hard earned cash and bring you closer to your dream of jumping out of a plane!
We’ve got something else just for you – here is a simple savings plan to help you save for your skydive in just one month. That’s right, if you follow our plan, you’ll have enough cash to jump out of a plane in 30 days! All you need to do is follow the plan and deposit the amount next to each day of the month into your savings account, starting with just $2. After 30 days, you’ll have a whopping $480 in total, which is more than enough to book your next skydive. Too easy!
