Keeping our staff and customers safe and happy is our number one priority. We achieve this by equipping ourselves with the best skydiving equipment, planes and transport the industry has on offer. And of course, the best skydive instructors in the country. Here are some of the legendary people that will guide you through the stages of learning to skydive solo.

Selwyn loves teaching & sharing the love of skydiving!
Skydiving is Adriano's life!
Learn to skydive solo and experience the thrill of an independent freefall and deploying your own parachute. This internationally recognised AFF skydive course involves up to nine hours of comprehensive ground training before your first jump at Stage 1. Our highly qualified skydive instructors help you develop your skydive skills every step, at a pace that you feel comfortable with. If you’re eager, you’ll be flying solo quicker than you can say ‘jump’.
Once you’ve done the comprehensive ground training, you’ll exit the aircraft with two instructors holding on to you. On the way down you’ll perform some skydive tasks, deploy your parachute by 4500 feet, then descend through the sky to your landing area. By the time the course is finished you’ll be qualified to skydive on your own. You may even decide to turn this sport into more than a hobby.
You need to complete ten solo skydives - called ‘consolidation jumps’ in the course - to ensure you’re sufficiently skilled in everything we’ve taught you. Once you have satisfied all requirements of the course, you’ll be eligible to apply for your A Licence from the Australian Parachute Federation. Yee-ha!!!
Get your solo skydive accreditation in a blissfully iconic setting. Byron Bay’s closest beach skydive!
Courses are generally run every 2 weeks.
Our highly qualified skydiving instructors come armed with state-of-the-art equipment and all the personality traits needed to encourage and develop your flying skills.
On your first jump you will be jumping tandem with one of our experienced instructors who will teach you the basics of all aspects of a skydive. You will deploy and steer the parachute communicating with your instructor to guide you in for a safe landing.
Stage two teaches you how to fly forward through the sky in a 'delta' body position. Your two skydiving instructors will continue to hold you and fly with you until deployment. You will then steer your own parachute, communicating with an instructor on the ground until you are guided in safely for landing.
Next you learn how to make controlled turns during freefall and hover on a column of air. When you're ready, one of your skydiving instructors will let you go and fly in front of you. The independence begins!
Stage four will see you jumping out at up to 14,000 feet with just the one instructor. Once you have demonstrated your stability, your instructor will release their grip on you, coming around to fly in front of you.
Now it's time to try a solo exit from the plane and learn how to turn your body 360 degrees. After practising 'docking' techniques, you will deploy your parachute at 5000 feet for an unassisted landing back at the drop zone.
After a solo exit, the stage six skydive focuses on turns and forward movement. Your skills will be well and truly building by this point and your confidence will be gaining momentum.
This is the stage everyone looks forward to! After exiting the plane, your instructor will demonstrate a backflip – you can now follow their lead and try one on your own. Initiate your turn and make a high-speed track away from your jumpmaster. Thrills aplenty!
Stage eight will see you consolidating your solo skydive training with a dive exit followed by fall rate control to your instructor. You'll then do a 360 degree left and right turn followed by a track. If you don't know these terms yet, fear not! You very soon will.
The final stage in your AFF course involves a jump exiting the plane from 4000ft to orientate you with jumping from lower altitudes. Following this, you officially graduate. Time to pop the champers!
We know that learning to skydive solo is a massive leap with lots of questions. If you don't find what you're looking for below, don't hesitate to get in touch.
The first two days of the course are set days and you will need to be there and available for them. After that you can progress at your own pace. If you come in everyday you will have the best chance of finishing as soon as possible. Students can complete a maximum of 3 jumps a day, so to complete the 9 stages you would need at least 3 good days after the 2 theory days. It is best to allocate two to three weeks. After completing the 2 theory days, if you only have weekends available that's okay – just pray to the weather gods the weekend weather is consistently good. We recommend trying to complete your AFF course within a month of starting to keep momentum and to have all the skills and information fresh in your head.
The AFF course can take you from never skydiving before to being able to be driving past on a beautiful day and saying 'let's just go for a skydive!' The course teaches you about your equipment, all the safety procedures, we go indoor skydiving and complete 9 skydives to make you qualified to jump out of a plane by yourself. Check out what’s involved in the nine-stage AFF course above.
Skydive Australia is all about safety and there are rules in Australia that govern the conditions in which each level of skydiver can jump in. While you are considered a student the technical wind limit will be 15 knots. Making sure to stay within these limits will allow you to better manoeuvre your canopy and learn how it works. In turn it will ensure you are in a more controlled environment.
No. Our professional and knowledgeable staff will teach you everything you'll need to know to be able to get you jumping solo. Our comprehensive course covers it all! We make sure to teach each step as thoroughly as possible, we cover theory components for safety, include tunnel time for easier practice and we'll even take you on your first tandem but let you be in control, pull the chute and steer (TAFF).
To qualify for your certificate 'A' you generally need around 15-20 successful jumps. You will also need to complete and pass a written exam and you will need to have completed 10 unassisted safe landings within 30m of the target centre. During this process, you can still jump at our drop zone, using our skydiving gear and under the guidance and supervision of our staff and instructors.
Your health and safety is our number one priority. Although we'd love to be flexible and accommodate everyone, these restrictions are taken seriously without compromise. If you still have unanswered questions, feel welcome to reach us here.
